The best thing about having my son attend our neighborhood school is that I have been able to meet some of the most amazing moms who are also neighbors. Last summer, when all of our children were getting ready to enter the big world of Kindergarten, someone organized a playgroup. While it was wonderful that our kids all got acquainted with one another, guaranteeing that there would be a few familiar faces in the halls on the first day of school, the greatest blessing to me was the chance to get to know so many wonderful women. I first met Kate at one of these play dates, and after our meeting I thought “wow she sure is a people person” :) After getting to know her better, I learned that she is actually referred to as “the Mayor” because she knows EVERYONE, she has become one of our fearless Kindy-Mom’s-Night-Out ringleaders, an early morning workout buddy, and one of my most supportive fans.
Miss C and Mr J weren’t completely on-board with the whole photo session at 9am idea. But despite Mom and Dad’s frustrations, they came through like champs. I dazzled Mr J with my in-depth knowledge of trains, and I think Miss C appreciated my corny jokes, although I was more impressed with her Urkel impressions, which I’m not including photos of {C, you can thank me in 10 years}. :)

When Kate contacted me several weeks ago about scheduling her session, she was on the fence about whether to include the whole family or just the kids. With moments like these, and a family this gorgeous, I’m so glad they decided to go with a full family session!

The hardest picture for me to get is always the group shot – the one photo where everyone is happy, no one is giving me a forced grin, or striking a pose. As a “lifestyle photographer”, my whole schtick is that I’m not going to force something that is uncomfortable, so I try to let it come naturally. The W family made me work for this one! I think out of all of the photos, this was one of the last two that I took – I think it was worth the wait, and I hope you’ll agree.

~ Kate, you are a beautiful woman inside and out, and I had a wonderful time getting to know your family on Saturday. I’m so thankful to call you my friend. ~K
