Your memories. Your art. What truly captures your family in this moment in time? Is it the picture of your son in his starched shirt looking back over his shoulder at an awkward angle? Wouldn’t he smile much more naturally if he were running through a field, looking for a rock or laughing with his dad? Wouldn’t your daughter be giving her most genuine giggle if she were twirling in the leaves or picking clovers?
If you book a family session with me we will be on the move. We’ll find cool rocks to stand on, flowers to smell and walls to jump off of. I have two young boys of my own, so I know how difficult and uncomfortable children (and their parents!) are when they are forced to sit still and pose unnaturally for traditional photo sessions. We will definitely get some pictures of laughter and we may get a few of pouts or even tears. But when you look back at your pictures after the session, these will probably be some of your favorites. Because we’re capturing a moment – and the moments are what life is all about!
A family photo session typically lasts one and a half to two hours, and includes one outfit change. Within a week of completion of your session, you will receive a link to your online custom slide-show which will include 30-40 of the best images professionally edited and set to music. You’ll be able to select your favorites from your online gallery, and order your prints through my professional photo lab.
The session fee for up to 5 people is $150. Kelly Nelson Photography offers 8×10 custom gift prints starting at $40 and portrait collections beginning at $500. There is a minimum order requirement of $350 for all sessions.

Additional subjects are $25/person.
I require a $75 non-refundable deposit to hold your session date and time.
I understand that sometimes kids get sick or have boo-boos. I also know that the weather in Northern Virginia can be very unpredictable. I am more than willing to reschedule for these types of circumstances.
